Remarkably for Ozu, whose films tend to be so delicate,. this film is conspicuously vulgar throughout. Most notably, the schoolboys' favorite.

As the night goes on, we’re laughing, sharing stories, and I’m just so grateful for days like this. Ozu, you crazy city, you’ve got my heart. I’m exhausted but happy. I stumble home, thinking about all the wild stuff that happened.
